O. Henry's “The Ransom of Red Chief” comes to the stage in Yerevan
“The Ransom of Red Chief”, a short story by classical American writer O. Henry unfolds in a play that is set to be staged on Friday, June 8, at the Yerevan State Theatre of the Young Spectator.
Directed by Artur Saribekyan, the performance rarely comes to the stage in the Armenian capital of Yerevan, the theater’s press service told Panorama.am.
“As far as I know, “The Ransom of Red Chief” by O. Henry has been hardly staged in Yerevan, a fact that is double binding,” the director says. “This is the first time I am working as a stage director at the Theatre of the Young Spectator. I have been invited by the theater’s artistic director David Harutyunyan. I must say it is a great pleasure to work with the theater’s staff and crew.”
Saribekyan did not go into the details of the play, only adding it will be full of “unexpected developments” and interesting scenic design offered by young artist Mariam Muradyan.
He says both children and adults will equally enjoy the play. “The naughty heroes of our story will certainly attract the children’s attention, meantime taking the adults to their careless childhood,” he said, adding “the message of the play is to reveal a child living in every adult and preventing them from stopping dreaming."
