World football legends to play in Armenia’s capital on July 8
Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, will host “a match of the legends” in participation of Latin American and European football stars on July 8, with the 2018 FIFA World Cup around the corner, the organizer of the event, Arthur Soghomonyan told a news conference on Tuesday.
According to him, such world-class football legends as Rivaldo, Gabriel Batistuta, Hernan Crespo, Dida, Cafu, Ivan Zamorano, Serginho, Juliano Belletti, Paolo Maldini, Youri Djorkaeff, Jari Litmanen, Hristo Stoichkov, Demetrio Albertini, Ludovic Giuly, Kakha Kaladze and Ryan Giggs have already confirmed their participation in the game.
Soghomonyan, who is the new owner of FC Pyunik, says such football stars as Carles Puyol, Roberto Carlos, Kaka and Francesco Totti may also take part in the match.
He informed that a fan zone of the World Cup 2018 will be created in Yerevan on July 6-8, with the "legends match” scheduled to be held at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium on July 8.
“July 8 is a rest day during the World Cup when no matches will be played in Russia. Armenia will host the match on that very day,” he said.
Russian-Armenian sports journalist and commentator Nobel Arustamyan, present at today’s conference, is set to analyse the match.
