Aurora Dialogues launched in Yerevan
The Aurora Dialogues, an international platform for academics and practitioners who explore and debate humanitarian challenges, started today in Yerevan.
The event takes place in the scope of Aurora Humanitarian Initiative’s annual weekend of humanitarian-related events, including the 2018 Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity ceremony to take place on June 10 in Armenia’s capital.
The Co-Founder, Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, President of the Carnegie Corporation of New York Vartan Gregorian reflected on ideas of inspiration and empowerment that can make a lasting impact on the world.
In his words, some people in Europe, Asia and elsewhere are proud of high buildings, other values and achievements, while Armenia’s fate is closely ties to books. He stressed it has been no coincidence that their affection with books and reading is testified with preservation of century-long manuscripts.
Gregorian outlined the invention of the Armenian alphabet, adoption of Christianity as a state religion among defining features of the Armenians, pointing that preserving their national identity they are however engaged with elaboration of universal norms.
