Passenger traffic up 9.2% at Armenian airports
Armenia’s two airports saw an increase in passenger numbers in the first five months of 2018, compared to the data of 2017.
Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport and Shirak Airport in the second largest city of Gyumri handled 955,476 passengers in January-May 2018, up by 9.2% from the same period last year, the press service of Armenia’s General Department of Civil Aviation (GDCA) told Panorama.am.
The figures show that a total of 217,615 people used the services of the two airports in May alone, 5.4% higher than a year ago.
In May 2018, the passenger traffic through Zvartnots Airport accounted for 202,290 people – an increase of 2.1% over the same month in 2017, while the passenger flow in the first five months grew by 5.7%.
A total of 6,540 tons of cargo were transported through Zvartnots Airport in January-May 2018, down from 9,341 tons of the same period last year.
The passenger traffic through Shirak Airport comprised 15,325 people in May 2018 against the 8,240 people in the same month last year. The airport served 59,350 passengers from January to May this year, while some 27,429 people used its services in the same period of 2017.
Meanwhile, the total number of flights and landings of both airports in January-May 2018 also recorded a rise accounting for 11.5% compared to the numbers of 2017.
