NSS probing bribery case involving Yerevan Municipality officials
The National Security Service (NSS) under the Armenian government is investigating a bribery case reportedly involving some officials of the Yerevan Municipality.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the service says it has received reports from two citizens according to which some officials of the Yerevan Municipality have demanded them to transfer large sums of money to the account of Yerevan Foundation apart from the payments prescribed by law to grant them construction and property registration permits.
The initial probe has revealed that the officials failed to transfer some part of the money demanded from the citizens to the foundation’s account to embezzle it instead.
A criminal case has been initiated on abuse of power and fraud.
The service agents have raided the offices of Yerevan Foundation located inside the building of Yerevan City Hall, with large-scale investigative measures underway to uncover all the details of the case.
