Armenian parliament fails to elect Elizaveta Danielyan as Constitutional Court judge
The Armenian National Assembly voted down Elizaveta Danielyan's bid for the Constitutional Court judge at its regular session on Wednesday.
Danielyan was the only candidate nominated for the post by the General Assembly of Judges.
Only 54 out of the overall 105 MPs took part in the voting, Gagik Melikyan, the Chair of the parliament's Accounting Committee, said, summing up the results. 36 lawmakers voted for Danielyan’s candidacy, while 17 others voted against, with one abstention.
Prior to the voting, Yelk faction MP Edmon Marukyan and Tsarukyan Alliance MP Naira Zohrabyan voiced their blocs’ intention to refrain from taking part in the election.
