We have turned into an export country in IT sector - Samvel Martirosyan
BarCamp EVN’ 18 non-conference opened today at American University of Armenia which is participatory workshop-events in the sphere of information technology (IT), new media and Internet. The first day of the event is the unofficial, informal part of the conference supporting open discussions and a free exchange of ideas and opinions.
As Social Media and Information Security Analyst Samvel Martirosyan told reporters, the Armenian IT industry has recorded major shifts over the past two years which is perhaps not quite visible in the internal market.
“Actually, we have turned in a country that exports products and service in the IT sector. To compare with the reality of ten years ago, when Armenia was dependent on orders from abroad, the situation has changed today, likewise the phycology of the IT community. BarCamp and other similar platform bring positive changes as til today each company was working for outsiders on individual projects, while today we are talking about an exchange of experience, interaction within an established IT community,” Martirosyan said.
The expert attributed the changes to the quality of education as well as the role of investors, highlighting the need for investing major finance into the IT sector.
Co-Founder and Executive Director at UCOM (mobile network operator and internet service provider) Hayk Yesayan, in turn, noted that the company has sponsored the event in the fifth consecutive year.
“Education, IT sector and engineering are top directions in our company’s social responsibility policy. This is an event format allowing to hold open discussions and free exchange of ideas in a non-formal environment. We are ready to stand by all startups that come up with interesting ideas and make use of our network,” Yesayan stressed.
To note, BarCamp has been held in Armenia since 2009.
