Etchmiadzin mayor steps down
Mayor of Armenia’s Etchmiadzin city Karen Grigoryan has announced his decision to step down.
“I, Karen Grigoryan, submit resignation by my own will,” he said in a Facebook post.
Grigoryan, the son of General Manvel Grigoryan, who was detained on 16 June as part of a criminal probe into “illegally acquiring” weapons and ammunition, on Saturday morning met with Governor of Armavir Province Gagik Mirijanyan, afterwards announcing he would continue to serve as the mayor.
His decision comes after two days of public protests against Grigoryan, demanding his resignation.
