The list of animals kept in General Manvel Grigoryan’s private zoo revealed
Five black bears and one tiger were among the animals found in the private zoo of the arrested general Manvel Grigoryan. As the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) reported in a release, as a result of the monitoring by the organization’s rapid response group, eight chamois, a deer, a pair of peacocks and other galliformes were also found in the zoo at Grigoryan’s villa in Armenia’s Armavir province.
The tiger was transferred to the quarantine zone of Yerevan Zoo for further medical examination. The Yerevan Zoo announced on Monday it was considering measures to evacuate those animals for their protection.
To remind, the private zoo was revealed during the search of Grigoryan’s villa on June 16 by the National Security Service (NSS) officers. Grigoryan, a retired army general and chairman of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union, was arrested on 16 June after security officers found and confiscated a large quantity of “illegally acquired” arms and ammunition, as well as explosives in his villa.
