Armenian parliament voting to strip army general of immunity
The Armenian National Assembly has kicked off the secret voting on stripping Republican MP Manvel Grigoryan of his parliamentary immunity to press criminal charges against him and deprive him of liberty.
The voting will last for half an hour, Gagik Melikyan, the Chair of the parliament's Counting Committee, announced.
The parliament started debates on stripping Grigoryan of his immunity on Tuesday morning.
Grigoryan, a retired general of the Armenian Armed Forces, was arrested on Saturday, June 16, on corruption charges, after security officers raided his property to discover and confiscate a large quantity of illegally stored firearms, explosives and cars (including military vehicles) in his Etchmiadzin villa.
The agents of the National Security Service released a video detailing the discoveries, which also showed that Grigoryan had appropriated donated goods, including canned and preserved food, clothing, hygiene items and medicine accompanied by letters addressed to servicemen sent to them as assistance during the 2016 April War.
