An old contract of fighter jet for the new prime minister
Moscow wants to fulfill the transfer of Russian Su-30 fighter jets to Armenia until 2024, Russian “Kommersant” newspaper writes, adding the relevant contract had been signed between the two countries in 2012. It is noted that the deal was postponed due to financial issues.
“Russia plans to implement the agreement with the new leadership of Armenia. Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was in the cabin of the Su-30SM fighter, labeling it as one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world,” the paper notes.
It is noted that Armenia’s desire to acquire the jets were raised after Pashinyan posted a photo of himself in the cabin of the jet at Erebuni air-base allotted to the Russian 3624th Air Base.
The talks about acquiring the jets will reportedly be fulfilled within 1-2 years, the paper said.
To note, Su-30SM is a multirole fighter aircraft developed by JSC Sukhoi Design Bureau for the Russian Air Force. It is an advanced derivative of the Su-30MK combat aircraft family.
