Armenian MP says funded pension reform discussions will continue
Edmon Marukyan, a lawmaker from the Yelk faction, on Thursday said they would continue discussions on the controversial mandatory funded pension system approved today by the Armenian parliament.
Under the new pension reforms, the employed citizens of Armenia are set to invest a 2,5 percent of their monthly salaries to the pension funds, which manage them until they reach retirement age.
Marukyan said that his bloc’s stance is in line with that of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan who stressed today the need for ‘drastic' reforms in the funded pension system.
The MP announced their statements on the system are still in effect. “The page of the reforms in the system is not turned yet, and we will continue discussions around it. A draft law package will be submitted to the parliament,” he said, vowing to spare no effort to meet the demands of the Armenian citizens.
He also says Lusavor Hayastan (Bright Armenia) party headed by him they will not accept the application of Armenian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mane Tandilyan on quitting it, as the prime minister refused to sign her resignation as social welfare minister.
