Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan to share stage with Russian maestro Valery Gergiev
World-famous Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan is today performing at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The concert organized as part of the Stars of White Nights festival will be conducted by People’s Artist of Russia, Artistic and General Director of the Mariinsky Theatre, conductor Valery Gergiev.
The concert program includes Variations on a Rococo Theme by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the Armenian musician said in a Facebook post.
Hakhnazaryan, 29, is recognised worldwide as one of the finest cellists of his generation. Since winning the Cello First Prize and Gold Medal at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011 at the age of 22, he has forged strong relationships across the globe with orchestras such as the Mariinsky Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, Filarmonica de la Scala and the London Philharmonic. Hakhnazaryan was selected to the prestigious 2014 BBC New Generation Artists Scheme, and his performances are broadcast regularly on BBC Radio 3.
