No agreement reached in talks to transfer Artsakh’s ‘five regions’ to Azerbaijan – ex-FM
Armenia’s former Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian has issued comments on the statement of Russian political analyst Alexander Dugin over an alleged agreement on handing over five regions of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to Azerbaijan reached during the talks.
Speaking to Tert.am news agency, Nalbandian described comments by Dugin, the head of the International Eurasia Movement, as “untrue and nonsense”.
“This information has absolutely nothing to do with reality. In recent years, the key component of all the rounds of peace talks has been the fact that the status of Artsakh must be determined by its people through the free expression of their will, which must have an international legally binding force. The other components are derivative,” he said.
“Armenia has stated on numerous occasions that there is no alternative to the peaceful settlement of the conflict based on the international recognition of the exercise of Artsakh people’s right to self-determination and the guarantee of their security. Other sorts of comments are not only untrue but also nonsense,” he added.
In a recent interview, the Russian analyst said an agreement has been reached on the transfer of five Artsakh regions to Azerbaijan during the negotiations, adding Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani media fail to adequately cover the issue.
