Armenia’s PM observes Amulsar gold mine via helicopter
Representative of the Armenian Environmental Front Levon Galstyan and Lydian Armenia Executive Director Hayk Aloyan introduced on Friday their positions on the Amulsar gold mining to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who studied the mine and its surrounding environment on board a helicopter, Arman Yeghoyan, a spokesman of the PM, said in a post on Facebook.
“The PM observed the Amulsar mine and its surrounding environment via a helicopter, again combining the facts and arguments presented by the sides,” the spokesman wrote, posting a photo from the meeting.
PM Pashinyan is now holding discussions on the gold mine issue, in participation of the employees of Lydian Armenia, which operates the mine, and the demonstrators protesting against the gold mining operations in Armenia’s Vayots Dzor Province.
Noting that the results of the expertise on the possible effects of the gold mine exploitation on drainage basins conducted by Lydian Armenia and the protesters do not match, the PM stressed the need to conduct a new joint expertise in participation of the state.
