Iran will not pull out of the nuclear deal for now, expert predicts
The Iranian side continues its two-sided policy with the West, expert in Iran Vardan Voskanyan told reporters at a press conference on Tuesday, speaking of the new realities after the US left the multinational deal under which sanctions on Iran were lifted in return for curbs on its nuclear program verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
In Voskanyan’s words, the current policy of Iran toward European powers is aimed at respecting the deal, while the country has adopted a tough stance to the United States that pulled out of the deal under the Trump Administration.
“Obviously, the recent meeting in Vienna with ministers from Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia was success for the Iranian side, where all of the stakeholders of the nuclear agreement reiterated their commitment to the Pact,” added the expert.
Voskanyan went on suggesting that with relation to the United States Iran tries to move the process to the internal dimension of the U.S. politics, with explicit expectations to generate resistance from the congressmen to the Trump Administration.
“For now, the Iranian side will not leave the deal and will try to preserve relations with the European states. As to the mutual threats and commendations, the Iranian president warned he would block the oil transit throughout the region should the United States impose full oil embargo and sanctions on the Islamic State, ” the expert concluded, explaining how the Iranian oil rhetoric works.
