Syrian Army foils major jihadist attack in northeast Latakia
The jihadist rebels launched a major attack against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the northeastern countryside of the Latakia Governorate last night, Lebanon-based Almasdarnews.com reported.
According to the source, the jihadist rebels stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s positions to the south of Kabbani. The battle would ensue for more than five hours, with the jihadist rebels repeatedly attempting to crack the Syrian Arab Army’s lines in this part of the Kurdish Mountains.
However, despite some preliminary gains, the jihadist rebels were ultimately forced to retreat after failing to secure the points they captured from the Syrian Arab Army.
The source quotes a military source in Latakia, saying the Syrian Arab Army managed to foil the jihadist attack, while also killing several militants and downing an HTS drone.
The source added that at least three Syrian Arab Army soldiers were killed during the battle, including one officer. This is the first major attack by the jihadist rebels in northeast Latakia since the Turkish military setup an observation post in the Kurdish Mountains.
