Armenia's NSS chief says he wants to head the country’s Football Federation
Artur Vanetsyan, the Director of Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) says he has the desire to head the post of the Head of Armenia’s Football Federation. Vanetsyan remarks came on Friday during a briefing with reporters after the cabinet session. “I am not saying I will refuse [to occupy the post], we will discuss and announce the decision in the coming days,” Vanetsyan said in response to comment on media reports about his possible election.
“If I decide to nominate my candidacy, I will communicate my decision beforehand,” Vanetsyan added.
Earlier, the acting head of Armenia’s Football Federation Ruben Hayrapetyan who has served as the head of the federation since 2002, stated he will not run for the post in the upcoming election in case Vanetsyan decides to be nominated.
Asked whether there might be a conflict of interest to occupy the post of the NSS Chief and simultaneously serve as the head of the Football Federation, Vanetsyan said: “I have not made a final decision to nominate for the post and I just think over it. I do not conceal my desire [to head the federation] and am ready to be nominated. The time will tell whether I will be elected or not in case I nominate my candidacy.”
