Aram Khachaturyan’s “Gayane” Ballet returns to the Bolshoi stage after a 60-year break
“Gayane” ballet of the renowned Armenian composer Aram Khachaturyan will be performed at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow on July 24, 2018 after a 60-year break. The Bolshoi Theatre General Director Vladimir Urin has told the TASSS agency they have always been happy to welcome friends and partners from other countries at their stage. It is noted that last time “Gayane” Ballet was staged at the Bolshoy 57 years ago in 1961.
“Armenia is a country of music. Apart from that, “Gayane” ballet which will be performed by the artists of the Yerevan Opera House is based on a national legend , while the author of the music is the famous Armenian composer Aram Khachaturyan,” Urin has noted.
As the organizers of the concert has noted the 2018 season at the Bolshoy has been enriched with events dedicated to the Armenian statehood and culture.
“This year marks the 115th anniversary of Aram Khachaturyan. Armenia marks the 100th anniversary of the first republic, while capital Yerevan will celebrate the 2800th anniversary of the founding of Erebouni,” Urin has noted.
In his words, all those dates were a good opportunity “to feature the Armenian culture with all its beauty in Russia though number of events.”
The performance will be accompanied by the music of the Symphony Orchestra of the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet headed by Artistic and General Director of the Yerevan Opera House, Honored Artist of Russia Maestro Constantine Orbelian. The leading soloists include Honored Artists of Armenia Ruben Muradyan, Suzanne Pirumyan, and Mary Hovhannisyan, as well as Sona Vardanyan, Vahagn Margaryan, and Razmik Marukyan.
