Armenia, Russia may establish a cinema fund
Armenia and Russia are discussing the possibility of establishing a cinema fund to promote joint projects. The idea was raised at a meeting between Armenian Minister of Culture Lilit Makunts and Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky.
“We have joint film projects, like “The Earthquake” that was produced several years ago, "Spitak", a film jointly produced by Armenia and Russia, that received the Silver Saint George Award at the Moscow International Film Festival,” Medinsky has noted, adding the two countries have many common topics that could serve as basis for production of films.
In his words, the fund with a joint capital may act as commissioner both for production and promotion of joint projects, admitting also the possibility of setting up an organization with public-private capital.
According to the release, Armenian culture minister has praised the idea of establishing a cinema fund.
“We should understand what steps are needed, assess the format and the human and financial resources for the implementation of the idea,” Makunts has noted, adding the project will also help to reveal talented directors and producers.
