CSTO has no information on charges brought against Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov in Armenia
The Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) possesses no information concerning the charges pressed against the Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov, Press Secretary at the CSTO Vladimir Zaynedtinov told Interfax news agency,
“Yuri Khachaturov left for Yerevan in the second part of July for questioning in the status of a witness within the criminal investigation into the March 1-2 events of 2008. As of now, the CSTO Secretariat possess no information.” the press secretary stated.
To remind, the Special Investigative Committee of Armenia has pressed charges against the acting Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Yuri Khachaturov as part of the criminal investigation into the so-called tragic events of March 1, 2008 - the post presidential election crackdown in Armenia during which eight civilians and two police officers were killed.
To note, Khachaturov served as the Chief of the Yerevan garrison at a time of March 1, 2008, and on March 15 was appointed by the then President Robert Kocharyan as Chief of General Staff of Armenia’s Armed Forces.
The criminal case was initiated according Part 1 of Article 300 of the RA Criminal Code, that qualifies Khachaturov’s actions as aimed at “overthrowing of constitutional order of the Republic of Armenia.” The SIS also petitioned the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction to issue arrest warrant for Khachaturov.
