Red Cross reps. visit Armenian captive in Azerbaijan
Representatives of the Baku delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited Karen Ghazaryan, an Armenian man from a border village held captive in Azerbaijan, a spokeswoman of the ICRC Yerevan office told Panorama.am.
“According to our mandate, the ICRC visits the prisoners of war to observe their detention conditions and the treatment towards them, as well as to help them contact with their relatives,” Gohar Ter-Hakobyan said.
Earlier, the PM’s spouse, Anna Hakobyan, Armenia’s human rights defender and the foreign minister voiced their concerns about having no information on the captive.
Ghazaryan (b. 1984), whom Azerbaijan presents as an Armenian saboteur, is a resident of bordering Berdavan village of Armenia’s Tavush Province, who has not served in the Armenian army due to health problems and has been registered in a medical facility since 2013.
