Robert Kocharyan is in good health – Victor Soghomonyan
Armenia’s s ex-president Robert Kocharyan who is currently in custody, is in good health and mood, the head of the ex-president’s office Victor Soghomonyan stated today at a press conference in Yerevan. Soghomonyan informed lawyer Hayk Alumyan has joined the team to lawyers’ team to defend the ex-president’s rights.
To remind, Robert Kocharyan is arrested for two months. The former president was taken into custody from the court hall last week, accused of “overthrowing the constitutional order in the country with a group of people” in the scope of the criminal investigation into the post-election crackdown following the presidential elections of 2008 during which eight civilians and two police officers were killed.
As Alumyan informed the petition to reverse the ruling of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction about Kocharyan’s detention measure is ready and will be submitted to Armenia’s Court of Appeals soon. He also informed that no official date is scheduled for hearing of the petition.
To note, the Chief of the Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia Sasun Khachatryan told stated in a televised interview on Friday that remanding Robert Kocharyan into custody is necessary at the moment to ensure an independent investigation.
