Anahit Tarkhanyan named Yerevan mayoral candidate
Anahit Tarkhanyan has been named as a candidate for the post of Yerevan mayor, she said in a Facebook post.
"I express my deepest gratitude to the partners of NGOs that have formed the Yerevan Society initiative and GALA party for nominating me as a candidate for Yerevan mayor,” she wrote, vowing to spare no effort to justify the expectations and trust of all.
To note, the Civil Contract, Prosperous Armenia and Yerkir Tsirani parties have nominated Hayk Marutyan, Naira Zohrabyan and Zaruhi Postanjyan as their top candidates in the upcoming municipal elections, respectively.
Bright Armenia and Republic have fielded Justice Minister Artak Zeynalyan as their joint mayoral candidate in the elections.
The municipal elections are scheduled for September.
Former Mayor Taron Margaryan stepped down on 9 July amid strong public pressure.
At a special session on July 16, the Council of Elders fell short of securing the necessary quorum to elect a new mayor.
