Observatory: Saturday to see partial solar eclipse
A partial solar eclipse will take place on Saturday, 11 August, Armenia’s Byurakan Observatory told Panorama.am, adding during the eclipse the moon will obscure nearly 90 percent of the sun.
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon gets between the Earth and the sun, and casts a shadow over the Earth. A solar eclipse can only take place at the phase of new moon, when the moon passes directly between the sun and Earth and its shadows fall upon Earth’s surface.
The eclipsed sun will pass over Eastern Europe, Northern and Eastern Asia and Northern America, the observatory said.
Unfortunately, the partial eclipse will not be visible from Armenia.
