Germany ready to support Armenia in settling the Artsakh issue through peaceful means – Angela Merkel
“I am happy to be in your country which has rich cultural and historical traditions is open for the future,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated today at a joint press conference with Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan.
Merkel also reflected on the Armenian Genocide, the atrocities committed against Armenians should not and would not be forgotten.
“I attended Tsiternakaberd Memorial today in the spirit of the resolution adopted by the German Bundestag and paid my tribute,” Merkel said, adding the issue is not of legal nature for her.
The Chancellor next outlined the spheres of prospective cooperation between Armenia and Germany. “We exchanged views with Nikol Pashinyan what the relations between our countries should be. They are very good but could be enhanced further. We have a good agenda in the economic and culture spheres. We can cooperate on digitization, resources, education spheres. There are schools in Armenia with in-depth German is taught.”
Merkel next pointed with satisfaction that Armenia signed Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement with European Union, vowing support on their side to Armenia in the implementation of the Agreement.
Speaking of the Artsakh issue, Merkel said Germany is ready to support the peaceful settlement of the conflict. “Germany is a member of the Minsk Group. It is good to solve conflicts and better to settle them in a good atmosphere. Germany is ready to support Armenia in this,” the Chancellor stressed.
