Armenian appellate court rejects attorney’s appeal over Khachaturov’s case
The Armenian Court of Appeals on Monday rejected the appeal by Mihran Poghosyan, the attorney of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov, the attorney told Panorama.am.
Poghosyan had appealed the ruling of the Yerevan First Instance Court to consider the arrest of his client permissible.
The attorney said the court has also been requested to recognize a number of procedural violations against the CSTO chief, stil pending a court decision.
To remind, the Special Investigative Committee of Armenia has pressed charges against Khachaturov as part of the criminal investigation into the tragic events of March 1-2, 2008 – the post presidential election crackdown in Armenia, which left eight civilians and two police officers dead.
On July 28, Yerevan first-instance court ruled to grant bail to Khachaturov. Meanwhile Armenia proposed member states of CSTO to start a procedure of replacing the organization’s chief.
