Armenia’s Levon Aronian qualified for Grand Chess Tour Finals
Armenian GM Levon Aronian has become a co-champion of the 2018 Sinquefield Cup supertournament, the last leg of the 2018 Grand Chess Tour, held in the US city of Saint Louis to make it through to the playoff of the championship, the Armenian National Olympic Committee told Panorama.am.
As a result of the four tournaments of Grand Chess Tour, the Armenian chess star collected 34 points to take the second place, legging behind only Hikaru Nakamura, who scored 34.5 points. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave took the third spot with 31 points.
Thus, Nakamura, Aronian and Vachier-Lagrave have been qualified for the Grand Chess Tour Finals, while Fabiano Caruana and Wesley So will battle it out on Tuesday to secure their place at the finale scheduled for London on 11-17 December.
Aronian will receive $95,000 for the second place.
