Ten political forces running in Yerevan City Council elections so far
Wednesday, 29 August, marks the deadline for political forces planning to run in the upcoming snap elections of Yerevan City Council to submit applications to Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
As CEC secretary Armen Smbatyan said earlier, the election campaign will start on 10 September to conclude on 21 September.
According to the figures submitted by the Passport and Visa Department of the Armenian Police to the commission, the Yerevan eligible voters number 853,390 people, whereas it stood at 841,973 last year.
The Yerevan City Council has 65 members.
So far, ten political forces, including the Civil Contract, Prosperous Armenia, Yerkir Tsirani, Armenian Revolutionary Federation, Heritage, Democratic Way, Reformists and Pan-Armenian National Movement Parties, as well as Bright bloc and Yerevan Society initiative, have confirmed their participation in the municipal elections.
The former ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) on Wednesday announced a decision not to run in the elections.
The City Council elections are slated for 23 September.
