Police identify one of gunmen as new details emerge over ex-court chief’s house attack
Police have released new details over the attack against a former Armenian court head, which occurred late on Tuesday.
According to the police report, the son of Arman Mkrtumyan, former Chairman of Armenia’s Court of Cassation, contacted them at 11pm, an hour after the incident, to report that three armed and masked gunmen had burst into a mansion belonging to them located in Dzoraghbyur village of Armenia’s Kotayk Province.
He and his father resisted the attackers who opened irregular fire, during which Mkrtumyan’s son used his Walther gas gun in self-defense to neutralize one of the gunmen armed with an assault rifle, while the two others fled the scene.
Police officers have identified the subdued assailant as H.R., a 42-year old resident from Armenia’s second largest city of Gyumri, with measures underway to track down the two other attackers.
The gunman has been placed under arrest.
Police have discovered a total of 16 7.62mm ammo boxes, a AKM assault rifle and a sports bag containing a duct tape and a crowbar after searching the area of the mansion.
A probe is underway.
