Martiros Sarian's "Gazelles" to go on display in Armenia for the first time
“Gazelles”, a famous painting by Martiros Sarian, one of the greatest Armenian painters of the 20th century, will be displayed in Armenia for the first time.
The panting from the collection of Russia’s Tretyakov Gallery will be put on display at an exhibition titled “Sarian and France” to open at Martiros Sarian House-Museum in September.
The famous painting has been transferred to Armenia thanks to the patronage of Armenian-American philanthropist Haigoush Kohler, the museum said in a Facebook post.
The exhibition to run from 19 September to 14 November is dedicated to the 17th Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie to be hosted by Yerevan from 7 to 12 October.
As Panorama.am reported earlier, the exhibition will also feature “In the Caucasus (Tiflis)”, a canvas with a unique story from Sarian’s Paris period (1926-1928).
