Armenia sees strong growth in tourist arrivals in first half-year – minister
Armenia welcomed a total of 685,970 tourists in the first half of 2018, up by 10.2 percent from the same period last year, Minister of Economic Development and Investments Artsvik Minasyan told the reporters on Monday, summing up his 100 days in office.
According to the minister, around 610,900 people left Armenia for tourism purposes in the first half-year, showing an increase of 7.1 percent from 2017.
“The difference between tourist arrivals and departures made up 75 thousand people,” the minister said. “This figure stood at 52 thousand last year.”
Minasyan detailed 27.1% of tourists arrived in Armenia from CIS countries, 24% from EU states and 48.9% from other countries.
He said some 52.5% of tourists came to Armenia for recreation and entertainment, 22.9% for business purposes and 1.5% for treatment.
The minister also noted that Armenia saw 17.1% growth in domestic tourism from January to June of the running year.
