Russia will maintain the regional balance through providing more powerful weapons to the Armenian side – Davit Babayan
The statements about delivering $5 billion arms package to Azerbaijan from Russia will not reflect on the stability and maintaining the peace in the region, the head of the press department at Artsakh President’s Office Davit Babayan told panorama.am
Babayan’s comments came in request to reflect on the recent statement by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made on September 1 following the talks with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
“The matter is not about obtaining new arms, but the total value of the arms package delivered to Azerbaijan thus far. We are hopeful Russia is interested in preventing war in the region as the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairing state that works towards reaching peace and stability in the region. I am confident Russia will maintain the balanced position and even if it sells weapons to Azerbaijan, it would provide high-quality and more powerful weapons to the Armenian side. I’ve have always stated Azerbaijan is a terrorist state and handing even a slingshot to it is risky,” Babayan added.
Speaking of more than 10 agreements signed in scope of Putin-Aliyev talks, Babayan said: “Russia is a major power and tries to establish friendly relations with all its neighbors. We should take this calmly, while at the same time, make sure, Azerbaijan will never gain privilege over us”
To remind, earlier Tigran Abrahamyan, Adviser to the President of the Artsakh Republic in an interview with News.am reflected on Azerbaijani purchasing $5bn worth of arms and ammunition from Russia over the past 25 years, suggesting it is hard to skip this information, against the backdrop of Azerbaijan’s statements with respect to preparing for military actions.
In addition, per Abrahamyan, Azerbaijani media report about the deepening of Azerbaijan’s technico-military cooperation with Turkey, Belarus, and Israel, and regarding its prospects as well as new achievements that are expected in the near future.
