Armenian ombudsman discussed the possible expulsion of Armenian children with his Dutch counterpart
Armenia’s Human Rights Defender had a telephone conversation with the Dutch Children’s Rights Defender Margriet Kalverboer, the Ombudsman’s press office reported.
Two Armenian children, aged 13 and 12, face expulsion from the Netherlands where they have resided for the last 10 years. After a series of asylum rulings, a final decision was made h that there were no grounds for Lily and Howick to stay in the country.
As the source said, Margriet Kalverboer assured the matter of the Armenian children is under her consideration, and efforts are made to postpone the expulsion to thoroughly study the case, including all the relevant documents to ensure the protection of their rights.
To note, the story of the children has resonated with the public and even received the attention of the Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Princess Laurentien. Rutte said he had empathy with the children, but the country also needed to follow “a fair and strict policy.”
