Armenian FM: La Francophonie Summit to be great, joyous event
The XVII Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) slated for October in the Armenian capital of Yerevan will be ‘a great and joyous event’, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said at a joint press conference with the organization’s Secretary General Michaëlle Jean, who is in paying an official visit to Armenia.
“The joyous part of the summit refers to the Francophonie village to be set up in Yerevan’s Liberty Square from 7 to 12 October. It will feature some 40 pavilions, where we and the member states will showcase our culture, arts and crafts,” he detailed.
The minister promised the event will be very interesting and will close with a concert in the Republic Square featuring stars from Francophone countries.
According to Mnatsakanyan, it is a ‘great honor and responsibility’ for Armenia to host the summit regardless of the fact that Armenia is a new but rather confident and proud member of La Francophonie.
