Germany takes high security measures ahead of Erdogan trip
Extensive security measures will be taken during the visit of Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Germany which is slated for September 28-29, Ermenihaber reported.
The planned visit, which reportedly includes a military honor guard and state banquet, would be Erdogan's first official visit to Germany after he became president in 2014 and gained more executive powers under new presidential system following the critical elections in June.
The source remind that Turkish-German relations soured after the German parliament passed a resolution in early 2016 recognizing the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Empire. Apart from that, German nationals have been caught up in the arrests in the wake of the failed coup attempt.
Some sources suggest, scenarios of declaring high level emergency in capital Berlin is not ruled out given the expected demonstrations by PKK supporters and Germany’s leftists forces that plan demonstrations against the Turkish president.
As many as 10,000 police officers will be on hand to protect Erdogan from mass protests and a possible terror attack during the trip, the sources said.
