Armenian children facing expulsion will continue residing in the Netherlands
Two Armenian children who were facing expulsion from the Netherlands will stay in the country, the Office of Armenia’s Human Rights Defender reported. According to the source, Armenia’s Human Rights Defender had another telephone conversation with the Dutch Children’s Rights Defender Margriet Kalverboer.
The Dutch Children’s Rights Defender informed that the decision of expulsion has been annulled considering the best interest of the children in the occurred situation. The children will continue residing in the Netherlands.
To remind, two Armenian children, aged 13 and 12, face expulsion from the Netherlands where they have resided for the last 10 years. After a series of asylum rulings, a final decision was made h that there were no grounds for Lily and Howick to stay in the country.
The story of the children has resonated with the public and even received the attention of the Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Princess Laurentien. Rutte said he had empathy with the children, but the country also needed to follow “a fair and strict policy.”
