First inclusive and barrier-free bakery and coffee shop opened in Gyumri
The unique barrier-free bakery and coffee shop opened in Armenia’s second largest city Gyumri on Friday which is unique in the region. The project which is financed by the European Union, Austrian Development Cooperation, and Caritas Armenia is aimed at creating opportunities for involvement of people with disabilities into the labor market.
The official opening ceremony was attended by the EU Ambassador to Armenia Piotr Switalski, Mayor of Gyumri Samvel Balasanyan, NGS reps.
Aregak Bakery & Café is an example of social enterprise that will provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities and their families, promoting the idea of inclusiveness.
“It is a new and modern addition to Gyumri's cafe environment, and we hope that citizens and guest of the city will enjoy the products and the time spent in the café with friends and family," EU Ambassador Switalski said in opening address, adding later, "We all as active society members should be vocal advocates for people with disabilities and for their full participation in the economy. We hope that Gyumri will pride itself in the future in being a fully inclusive model city in Armenia."
