Ombudsman to send special report on Azerbaijani shelling to human rights organizations
The Office of Armenia’s Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) has recorded occasions of Azerbaijani cross-border shelling of the border villages of Armenia’s Tavush province over the past days. Citing reports from the media and evidence obtained by the Ombudsman’s Office, it is noted that as a result of the shelling, the village school, civilian houses and the roadway to the Baghanis village came under the fire on September 13-15. Meanwhile. the kindergarten of another border village Chinari and facades of several houses were damaged in the shooting.
Preliminary conclusion by the local authorities suggest that large-caliber machines guns and sniper were used by the Azerbaijani side.
“The Human Rights Defender of Armenia will conclude the fact-finding activities about the shelling of Armenian border villages by the Azerbaijani armed forces started from September 2. The evidence obtained suggest the shooting posed danger to the civilian population, including the health and life of children,” reads the statement.
The Ombudsman’s office adds that a special report about the Azerbaijani cross-border shelling will be released soon sent out to international human rights watchdogs.
