Armenian MFA denies phone conversation between Pashinyan, Erdogan
The reports of the Turkish media sources about a telephone conversation between Armenia Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President of Turkey Erdogan do not correspond to reality, Spokesperson at Armenia’s foreign ministry Tigran Balayan told panorama.am
“No telephone conversation was held,” Balayan said, when asked to comment on the relevant reports.
Ermenihaber earlier cited reports in the Turkish media sources, saying President Erdogan called Armenian PM Pashinyan in August with a request to release 16-year-old Umut Ali Ozmen, a Turkish citizen, who was captured by border guards on July 24 after crossing the Turkish-Armenian state border while herding cattle.
According to the source the boy’s father Mustafa Ozmen has contacted the chief aide of President Erdogan to solve the matter through diplomatic channels.
“Request to get into contact with the relevant authorities for the immediate release of the person, for whom there is no warrant issued, has been conveyed to the Interpol units in Armenia,” said Turkish Interpol after their communication with their Armenian counterparts on September 12.
Some reports suggest the boy has been sent to Georgia and is currently kept in Turkish Consulate, yet the boy’s father Mustafa Ozmen has not confirmed yet the boy’s whereabouts due to failed attempts to speak to the son.
