Situation calm in Armenian border villages after Azeri shooting
The situation in border communities of Armenia’s Tavush region was relatively calm on Sunday night after the villages were targeted by Azerbaijani shelling over the past week, Armenian Defense Ministry spokesperson Artsrun Hovhannisyan told Panorama.am.
“The situation in Tavush is relatively calm compared to the past few days. The shooting rates have relatively dropped,” he said.
Speaking to Panorama.am, Samvel Saghoyan, the mayor of the Chinari border village, said the village was calm overnight 16-17 September after it faced shelling by the Azerbaijani military on Saturday.
“The situation is calm. The night passed without any shooting, any incident,” he detailed.
In a post on Facebook on Monday, Narek Sahakyan, who heads the border village of Baghanis, also revealed a calm situation in his village, stressing the role of the Armenian army as ‘the number one guarantor and sponsor of our security.’
Azerbaijan has been intensifying gunfire toward Armenia’s border region in the recent days, targeting especially the villages of Baghanis, Chinari and Koti. The September 15 shooting of Azerbaijan targeted Armenia’s Areni village from Nakhichevan.
