Two Armenians elected to Aleppo Governorate Council
The results of elections to Syrian self-government bodies were announced on Tuesday.
As the Aleppo-based Kandzasar newspaper writes, two Armenian-Syrians – the member of the Berio Diocese of Catholicate of the Great House of Cilicia Maria Gabrielyan and member of Syrian Baas party Shahe Minasyan were elected to the Aleppo Governorate Council.
Overall, 8 Armenians were running for a place in the Council.
To note, Syria held local elections for the first time since 2011 on Sunday. Syrians in government-controlled areas cast ballots for more than 40,000 candidates competing for 18,478 seats on local administrative councils.
