Carpet flash mob in Yerevan
From early morning, balconies of number of historical-cultural buildings in Armenia’s capital Yerevan has been decorated with Armenian carpets.
Initiated by the National Center of Armenian carpet, the flash mob aims to feature Yerevan with bright and vibrant colors and show the diversity and richness of a Armenian textile heritage passed on by centuries.
As Ani Voskanyan, head of department at “Vordan Karmir” Armenian Museum told Panorama.am, the primary goal of the flash mob is to restore the national traditions of carpet making, preserve the Armenian heritage and make Armenian carpets recognizable to the world.
In her words, the art of the Armenian carpet and rug weaving has its roots in ancient times. Today, the traditional art of Armenian carpet making is kept alive by weavers in Armenia and Artsakh, using all the methods, techniques and designs from ancient times.
“It has been the second year we organize the flash mob that would provide an opportunity to show to the tourists and the Yerevan residents the rich history of Armenian carpeting. They will be able to see them not only in museums but also in public spaces,” Ani Voskanyan said.
