CSTO’s Khachaturov urges Azerbaijan to stop shelling Armenian border communities
Secretary General of the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Yuri Khachaturov calls on Azerbaijan to stop firing Armenia’s border communities and civilian facilities in a statement issued on Friday, addressing the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
“We are deeply concerned by the recent shootings across the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border, as well as the shelling of Armenian settlements and civilian institutions which resulted in fatalities,” the CSTO chief said in the statement released by the organization’s official website.
According to Khachaturov, the CSTO is convinced that the bellicose rhetoric gives rise to new tensions and undermines the peace efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group.
“Taking into consideration the information provided by Armenia's Permanent and Plenipotentiary Representative to the CSTO which was presented during the September 21 session of the CSTO Permanent Council, we urge to put an end to the fire and escalation of tensions in the CSTO area to prevent the threat facing the CSTO member state [Armenia],” the statement concludes.
