Yerevan elections: Voter turnout placed at 34.72% as of 5pm
A total of 294.534 people have cast ballots in the Yerevan City Council elections as of 5pm on Sunday, accounting for 34.72 percent of the total number of eligible voters, according to the update provided by Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
To note, 848,343 people are eligible to vote in the snap elections that kicked off in the Armenian capital at 8am local time. The polling stations will be open until 8pm.
Twelve political forces, including eight parties and four alliances are competing with party lists for 65 eligible seats in the city council that will elect Yerevan mayor. The political forces running in the elections are: Prosperous Armenia, Yerkir Tsirani, Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaksutyun (ARF-D), Heritage, Democratic Way, Reformists, Hayk, Orinats Yerkir Parties, as well as Bright, My Step, Yerevan Community and Yerevantsiner (Yerevan residents) blocs.
The former ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) is not running in the elections.
Some 662 observers from eight local NGOs have accredited to engage in election monitoring processes during the municipal elections.
