Armenian FM briefs OSCE mediators on Azerbaijan’s border escalation attempts
Armenia’s Foreign Minister Zohrap Mnatsakanyan, who is in New York to take part in the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly, met on Tuesday, September 25, with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs Igor Popov (Russia), Stefan Visconti (France), Andrew Schofer (U.S.), as well as Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk.
He once again reiterated Armenia’s commitment to the exclusively peaceful settlement of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) conflict, the Foreign Ministry’s press service told Panorama.am.
The Armenian foreign policy chief attached importance to creating an atmosphere conductive to peace, stressing the need to refrain from steps aimed at escalation of the situation and the aggressive rhetoric.
In this respect, Mnatsakanyan called the attention of the OSCE mediators on Azerbaijan’s regular attempts to escalate the situation on the borders with Armenia and Artsakh, which claimed the lives of two Armenian servicemen over the past days.
The FM highlighted Baku’s such steps pose serious threats to the peace process, especially ahead of the upcoming meeting between himself and his Azerbaijan counterpart, mediated by the co-chairs.
The officials also exchanged views both on the upcoming foreign ministerial meeting and other steps on the co-chairs’ agenda.
