Chess Olympiad: Armenian women’s team suffers first defeat
The Armenian women’s team has suffered the first defeat at Round 8 of the 43rd World Chess Olympiad nearing its end in Batumi, Georgia.
The team lost to Ukraine 1-3 to be dropped out of the top three on Tuesday. Having collected 13 points, the team is now sharing the 3-7 spots. The chess players from China and Ukraine are leading the table with 14 points apiece.
The Armenian men’s team played 2-2 with Poland in the eighth round to share the 3-9 spots with 13 points, the Armenian National Olympic Committee told Panorama.am.
The leader is the U.S. team with 15 points.
The Armenian men’s and women’s teams are set to face India and Iran, respectively at Round 9 of the Chess Olympiad.
