Armenian president to address controversial bill upon return
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, who is in the United States at a working visit, is closely following the ongoing developments in Armenia, his office said in a statement.
The president has held telephone conversations with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Speaker of the National Assembly Ara Babloyan to discuss with them the existing situation.
Sarkissian will refer to the controversial draft law on amending the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly immediately after his return to Yerevan and will initiate consultations with the leadership of the government and parliament.
“The president urges to remain calm and tolerant towards each other and is confident that the existing situation can and must be settled in the framework of the Constitution and laws through negotiations and dialogue,” the statement says.
From the United States, Sarkissian will depart to Paris to participate at the mourning ceremony and funeral of the world famous chansonnier Charles Aznavour.
