Artsakh Ombudsman discharged of duties
The Artsakh National Assembly has accepted the resignation of the country’s Human Rights Defender Ruben Melikyan, and the Ombudsman has been officially relieved of his duties, parliament Speaker Ashot Ghulyan said in a statement on Thursday.
Melikyan unveiled his decision to step down as the country’s Ombudsman on September 26. As prescribed by law, he has also submitted a report on his activities starting from 1 January through 3 October this year.
In a Facebook post announcing his resignation, Melikyan explained he currently pictures himself more in the human rights protection sector, rather than in the state system.
He pledged to often visit Artsakh and to do his best to help the country.
