Den Gharibian - author of the Armenian song performed at the homage ceremony in memory of Aznavour
The national homage ceremony for world-renowned French-Armenian chansonnier Charles Aznavour took place on Friday in Paris. Covered by a French tricolor flag, Aznavour’s coffin was brought to the courtyard carried by military personal to the sound of a traditional Armenian duduk. A spray of red, blue and orange flowers - the colors of the Armenian flag — was then laid close to the casket.
During the homage ceremony another Armenian song was performed which was little known among the Armenian public, yet its sounds and the voice of a military singer captivated the attendees and those following the ceremony live.
As it turned out, the song is titled “Armenian Waltz” and was performed by French-based music ensemble Bratsch.
The group was formed in 1975 by guitarist of Armenian descent Dan Gharibian and violinist Bruno Girard and has released more than ten albums to date. The group is renowned for the diversity of its musical influences and for the virtuosity of its members and guest artists.
To remind, Aznavour passed away at the age of 94 at one of his homes, in the village of Mouries, north of the French port city of Marseille.
Large crowds gathered on the streets of Yerevan and on the central square to light candles and mourn. A day of mourning was declared in Armenia and Artsakh on October 5.
